Colorado’s construction defect statutes are there to protect homeowners from shoddy construction–and Senate Bill 220 will erode those protections, force homeowners into paying for arbitration with homebuilders, and make it easier for builders to avoid accountability for shoddy construction.
Many things can be the cause of defects–poor craftsmanship, inadequate supervision of workers, incorrect installation of materials, low quality materials and inadequate inspections. Weakening consumer protections with Senate Bill 220 will not do anything to address these problems.
