Real estate developers, city planners and the Metro Mayors Caucus blame construction-defect lawsuits for the lack of condominium construction in Colorado. They aren’t addressing the root problem – poor construction practices that lead to lawsuits.

Colorado isn’t alone in its slow start of condominium development. Only five states have seen multi-family construction recover from the Great Recession.

In the second quarter of 2014, condos represented 4.6 percent of total new home starts in metro Denver. Not completely flat, but not at a level most would like to see.
